Un jour, dans une pharmacie de son quartier, Isabelle, brillante publicitaire agee de quarante-cinq ans, elegante et distinguee, rencontre Mado, une minuscule petite vieille toute rabougrie. Mado Bidois a quatre-vingt-dix ans et, chez elle, tout est sale et sordide. Malgre la panique de se sentir piegee, son degout, Isabelle va revenir chez Mado. Tout les separe. Pourtant, des rapports etroits vont se nouer entre les deux femmes, des rapports ambigus aussi, car la vieille dame combat desesperement pour sauver sa dignite.
